How to Preserve Your Floral Arrangement: Tips from Adobe Rose Custom Florist

At Adobe Rose Custom Florist, we believe that every arrangement tells a story—whether it's a celebration, a thoughtful gift, or a tribute to a loved one. While fresh flowers are naturally fleeting, with the right care, you can extend their beauty and enjoy your arrangement for days or even weeks longer.

Here are our top tips on how to preserve your floral arrangement:

1. Trim the Stems

As soon as you receive your flowers, trim about half an inch off the stems at a 45-degree angle. This allows for better water absorption and keeps your blooms hydrated.

2. Refresh the Water Daily

Replace the vase water every day or every other day to prevent bacteria growth. Use room-temperature water and rinse the vase thoroughly before refilling.

3. Use Flower Food (or Make Your Own)

Flower food helps extend the life of your arrangement. If you run out, you can make your own mix with 1 teaspoon sugar, 2 teaspoons lemon juice, and a few drops of bleach per quart of water.

4. Keep Them Cool

Avoid placing flowers in direct sunlight or near heat sources like appliances or vents. A cool environment helps slow down the blooming process.

5. Remove Wilting Flowers Promptly

As some flowers begin to wilt, remove them from the arrangement to prevent bacteria from spreading to the healthy blooms.

6. Mist Delicate Blooms

A gentle misting of water on more delicate flowers like hydrangeas or orchids can help keep them looking fresh longer.

7. Dry or Press Special Keepsakes

If you want to preserve your arrangement long-term, consider air drying, pressing, or even using silica gel for certain types of flowers. This is especially popular for wedding bouquets or meaningful gifts.
